A Visitors Guide

East Otago is a spectacular part of New Zealand situated between Oamaru in the North and Dunedin in the South. This is a really diverse region and the warm friendly people will make your visit a pleasure.

East Otago Penguin Reserve The area has a wide variety of landscapes, everything from clean green rolling hill country to stunning beaches and wetlands.
East Otago has an incredible history, much of which relates to the early settlers and the gold rush in Otago. Gold mining is still carried out at Macraes today.

There are many opportunities to get to see our wonderful wildlife. Seals and penguins are plentiful and there are many places from which these can be observed, a visit to the Tavora Reserve is extremely worthwhile.
With the recent opening of the Palmerston Butterfly and Bird Haven a whole new dimension for nature enthusiasts has been added.
